Verizon to integrate American Express Serve platform on mobile phones, tablets

Tuesday 2 August 2011 14:12 CET | News

US financial services company American Express has signed an agreement with US mobile telecommunications network and wireless phone provider Verizon Wireless to integrate Serve, a digital payment and commerce platform, on several Verizon mobile phones and tablets.

As a result, by the end of 2011, Verizon Wireless customers are expected to be able to establish Serve accounts that will enable them to make payments and redeem offers for goods and services directly from their mobile phones and tablets using Serve. In addition, American Express and Verizon Wireless will also collaborate to source, distribute and simplify redemption of online and mobile offers with participating merchants through the use of the Serve account.

The American Express Serve platform enables consumers to make purchases and person-to-person (P2P) payments online (on www.serve.com) via mobile phones and traditional cards at merchants who accept American Express cards.

Serve integrates multiple payment options into a single account that customers are able to fund from a bank account, debit, credit or charge card, or by receiving money from another Serve account. To access the account, consumers have to set up an online account at Serve.com or through a smartphone app. Customers can use these accounts to send and receive money to friends, pay bills and make purchases online. The Serve accounts can be accessed via Serve Apple iOS and Android applications at Serve.com and through Facebook.
