US secure electronic payment services provider VeriFone has started shipping its PAYware Mobile secure credit card encryption sleeve for the Apple iPhone. Also, the company has made the complementary PAYware Mobile App available on the App Store.

PAYware Mobile provides small businesses with card processing capabilities using the iPhone. The app and card encryption technology are provided free in conjunction with a PAYware gateway services agreement.

VeriFone’s card encryption sleeve slips over the iPhone to provide merchants with card swiping capabilities. It incorporates a stylus for signature capture and a mini-USB port for charging the iPhone while the encryption sleeve is attached.

VeriFone’s card acceptance solution for iPhone provides card data encryption from the moment the card is swiped. Using the card encryption sleeve with VeriFone’s app qualifies merchants for lower-cost “card present” interchange fees.
