US NYCE payments network offers SMS balance inquiries

US interbank network NYCE, a unit of Metavante, has partnered with US m-banking services provider Monitise Americas to enable its members to offer SMS-based balance inquiries to their customers, Finextra reports.

Monitise Americas is a joint venture between Metavante and UK m-banking firm Monitise. Following the agreement, NYCE offers SMS-based balance inquiries for free to credit union and banks members as part of the service offered to NYCE Network members. NYCE is now able to offer SMS-based balance inquiries on top of the existent ATM-based balance inquiries. According to a recent survey commissioned by Monitise Americas, over 75 percent of respondents think that having real-time account information is important. Last week, US transaction processing services provider Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) purchased NYCE parent Metavante for nearly USD 2.94 billion in stock.
