Sputnik announced today new software modules that enable Internet service providers and hotspot providers operating Wi-Fi networks powered by Sputnik Control Center management software to accept online payments for wireless Internet service.

The Sputnik PayPal Module(TM) enables any network user with an email address to securely pay for wireless Internet service. With more than 56 million accounts, PayPal, an eBay company, is a popular choice for operators of wireless venues with itinerant customers, such as airports, marinas, hotels, and cafes. The Sputnik PayPal module supports one-time (non-recurring) payments only. Operators choose their own rate plans; Sputnik charges no transaction fee for PayPal purchases. The Sputnik Aria Billing Module(TM) links to a complete billing and customer relationship management system hosted by Aria Systems LLC. It supports ongoing customer subscriptions and a variety of usage rates and plans. In addition to accepting credit card and bank account payments online, Aria offers a complete, Web-based solution for account creation, plan changes, recurring billing, customer self-service, and other features necessary for wireless Internet service providers. The Sputnik PayPal Module and Sputnik Aria Billing Module can be installed into an existing Sputnik Control Center server in minutes. The two modules announced today round out a growing family of expansion options designed to support a wide variety of business needs. The Sputnik RADIUS Module(TM), announced earlier this year, works with Sputnik Control Center to authenticate and collect data for users on a pre-existing RADIUS server or RADIUS-based billing system. The Sputnik Pre-Paid Card Module(TM) enables providers to restrict wireless Internet access to customers with pre-paid cards or codes. In addition to Sputnik Modules, third-party developers are also bringing enhanced options to the Sputnik platform. OurWebPortals offers a hosted PayPal billing solution for the Sputnik platform. Now available at, it is a pay-as-you-go service--no software is installed on the Sputnik Control Center server and there are no license fees. Instead, there is a $50 setup fee and transaction fees based on monthly sales volume. Price and Delivery The Sputnik PayPal Module is available for a limited time at the introductory price of $299 for a server license supporting up to 100 Sputnik-Powered wireless access points. Sputnik charges no transaction fees for PayPal purchases. Introductory price for the Sputnik Aria Billing Module is $499 for a server license supporting up to 100 Sputnik-Powered wireless access points.
