Siemens Expands Mobile Network in Burkina Faso

Siemens mobile is expanding the GSM mobile phone network in Burkina Faso. The West African country today has approximately 220 000 mobile phone users.

Following the expansion, around 50 000 new customers will be able to make mobile calls in Telmobs network, the mobile subsidiary of the state-owned telecom Onatel. Telmob is the leading mobile provider in Burkina Faso and today has around 85 000 customers. Burkina Faso, formerly Upper Volta, borders on the West African Sahara. The country has almost 12 million inhabitants and is three quarters the size of Germany. According to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), Burkina Faso is among the 22 largest national economies in Africa.
