Qatar: Vodafone, Doha Bank join forces to offer money transfer services

Monday 5 July 2010 11:26 CET | News

Qatar-based financial services provider Doha Bank has signed a deal with Vodafone Qatar, a subsidiary of British mobile network operator Vodafone, to enable the latter’s customers to perform international money transfers via their mobile devices, ameinfo.com reports.

According to the same source, the service will be rolled out to Vodafone Qatars customers by the start of 2011. To be able to use the service, clients have to apply for a VMT account from Vodafone Qatar. Further on, they can load the chosen amount of money onto their mobile phone via Doha Bank e-branches or via a bank transfer. Once the sum has been transferred to the VMT account, customers can send money locally or abroad or make payments for personal purchases at local shops.

Currently under the pilot program phase, the service will continue to be tested over the coming months of 2010, as part of the Qatar Central Bank approval.
