PayPal to test new Instore NFC mobile payment app in Sweden – report

Monday 19 December 2011 13:53 CET | News

PayPal is reportedly set to be testing a new NFC mobile payment application in Sweden over the Christmas holidays that would enable it to bring NFC payments to the point of sale, online media outlet mobilepaymentstoday.com reports.

According to the same source, PayPal is set to partner two Swedish retailers - ski and sports equipment retailer Alpingaraget, and the Webhallen electronics store. NFC payment capabilities will reportedly be made available at both retailers Stockholm locations.

The new app, dubbed PayPal Instore, employs NFC stickers distributed via its retail partners and attached to smartphones to enable purchases at NFC-enabled point of sale terminals. Customers download the app available for iPhone or Android smartphones, link it to a tag and swipe their phones over the terminal. The app then displays the purchase, as well as any applicable discounts, so the customer can confirm the purchase.
