Thursday 5 May 2011 11:23 CET | News

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board has approved a contract with international mobile payment services provide PayByPhone to introduce the latter’s pay-by-phone payment service across 27,000 on-street parking spaces throughout San Francisco, US.

Via the company`s technology, consumers can link a payment card to their mobile phones and initiate payments using their mobile phones as the communication channel without disclosing payment card details. The parking service is set to allow drivers to pay their parking fee from inside their vehicles using their handsets; the service includes a text message reminder when parking is about to expire and also provides users with the ability to remotely extend parking time from their phones.

The company operates in the UK, France, Canada and the US, deploying its services in over 120 cities. PayByPhone is a division of UK-based online payment services provider PayPoint.
