MTN launches Mobile Money service in Ghana

Friday 24 July 2009 07:52 CET | News

South Africa-based multinational mobile telecommunications company MTN Group has launched a new service dubbed MTN mobile money in Ghana, online news portal allafrica.com reports.

The service is the result of a partnership concluded between MTN and nine other financial services providers; it allows MTN subscribers in Ghana to carry out basic financial transactions using their mobile phones, without having to open a corresponding bank account.

MTN mobile money allows subscribers to open an electronic wallet and operate it via their handsets, thus gaining access to their funds at any time. The mobile platform also allows non-MTN customers to transfer or receive funds via Authorised MTN Mobile Money Merchants.
