According to the source, the banks have teamed with telecommunications and ICT services provider Telefónica on the trial, in a bid to enable 400 shared customers to pay for their shopping at Globus hypermarket stores in Prague by waving Samsung Star 5230 NFC handsets with pre-installed O2 wallet mobile applications against terminal readers.
Moreover, the source reports that Visa Europe has provided the payment application that is stored in Telefónica’s SIM cards. The technology partners of the pilot project include global device manufacturer Samsung, French payment services provider Ingenico CZ, Germany-based electronic payment services provide Giesecke & Devrient, US provider of smart card-based services Oberthur Technologies and Global Payments Europe.
The trial program is set to run for six months, until January 2012.
