The service will be rolled out in 2010, enabling more than 300,000 Indonesians living in the UAE to transfer money to recipients in Indonesia via their mobile phones. Luup’s technology allows users to send money by utilizing special short codes, sent via SMS, directly from their bank accounts, payroll cards or money exchange accounts to their beneficiaries. Those who receive the funds can cash-out the transfers at ATMs, post offices or money exchange houses.
In October 2009, Luup entered a mobile money transfer partnership with United Arab Emirates exchange house Emirates International Exchange (EIE). The two companies announced their collaboration at the Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) 2009 conference which took place in Dubai.
Dhasatra has a network of 120 banks and 5,000 post offices in Indonesia.
