Kenya: Safaricom, CBA team up for mobile banking service

Kenyan mobile network operator Safaricom has entered an agreement with East African financial institution Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) to launch a new mobile banking service for the unbanked population.

The new service dubbed M-Shwari is set to allow Safaricoms subscribers to save money and access short-term credit from CBA. M-Shwari users will not be required to directly open a bank account with CBA.

In recent news, Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA), has selected global payment services company TSYS to launch US dollar-denominated Visa credit cards in Africa using the latter’s PRIME card management solution.
