UK financial services provider HSBC has started offering its business internet banking services to UK Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users, BusinessWeek reports. The initiative comes after the bank made the same service available for BlackBerry devices in October 2008.

The online banking for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users targets HSBC’s 325,000 business internet banking customers, who thus gain the ability to monitor their financial transactions, carry out payments of up to GBP 100,000 per day, set up and manage pensions and apply for overdrafts. According to the same report, HSBC’s online division First Direct has been offering online banking on the Apple devices since January 2008 however HSBC business customers have not been able to access the service until now.

Representatives of the UK bank indicate that around 70 percent of its business customers currently bank online, and that it hopes to increase the percentage via the new online banking service targeted at Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users.
