Generation Z in Austria prefer to pay digitally, Mastercard study shows

Kantar interviewed 6600 people in eleven different countries, the majority of them in Eastern Europe. In Austria, 600 members of Generation Z took part. It has been shown that 81% of them shop digitally at least once a month. Respondents in Austria use digital shopping a little more than the average of all participating countries, where only 76% shop online at least once a month. 70% state that they always find out about the offers from various retailers before buying and 73% check whether the product is also available elsewhere as part of promotions.

When it comes to payment in ecommerce, Generation Z in Austria mainly relies on digital solutions such as debit or credit cards and PayPal. Only 8% state that they occasionally pay cash on delivery. According to a Mastercard representative, this means that young Austrians are much more digital than their peers in other countries, where an average of 41% say they sometimes pay cash on delivery. 76% of respondents in Austria pay by card, 56% even use them more often than cash. 34% of Austrian young adults make contactless payments with their cell phones. Another 29% plan to do that in the future. In addition, 36% are of the opinion that there are still too few shops that accept card payments.
