US financial services provider FirstMerit Bank has gone live with its mobile banking offering powered by financial technology company Fiserv’s Mobile Money platform.

The new service launched in early August 2011 and targeted at active FirstMerit online banking users, looking to provide them with a mobile channel for access to their online accounts.

FirstMerit is using Mobile Money FastTrack, an off-the-shelf version of Mobile Money that enables financial institutions to offer mobile banking features within a condensed implementation timeframe. FirstMerit customers can access the new mobile banking service via an Android, iPhone or Blackberry application, or via SMS.

With the FirstMerit mobile application and SMS texting, customers can view account balances and history and find FirstMerit branches and ATMs. The mobile application also allows users to transfer funds between FirstMerit accounts. Beginning in September 2011, users will be able to access bill payment capabilities.

FirstMerit Bank is a subsidiary of FirstMerit Corporation, a USD 14.3 billion diversified financial services company headquartered in the US.

In recent news, financial services provider 121 Financial Credit Union has made available the ZashPay person-to-person (P2P) payment service from Fiserv, allowing users to send money to anyone in the US using the recipients name and e-mail address or mobile phone number.
