Elavon launches MobileMerchant mobile POS app for small businesses

Wednesday 4 January 2012 11:55 CET | News

Elavon, a global payments provider and a subsidiary of US Bancorp, has launched its new Elavon MobileMerchant app which transforms mobile devices into POS terminals and allows small businesses to accept payments on an anytime, anywhere, basis. The application is currently running as part of a pilot programme in the UK.

Elavon MobileMerchant app is downloaded onto the merchant’s existing smartphone, and a Bluetooth-connected Chip and PIN device captures and encrypts card data, ensuring that no information is stored in the smartphone. Receipts are sent to customers via email or text message. The app currently operates on Blackberry and Android smartphones and tablets.

In August 2011, Elavon and China UnionPay, Chinas bankcard association, inked a processing agreement to provide acceptance for UnionPays debit and credit cards at Elavon merchants in the US and Europe.
