Tuesday 28 June 2011 15:41 CET | News

Germany-based telecommunication services provider Deutsche Telekom has chosen German electronic payment services provider Giesecke & Devrient to develop a SIM card service for contactless-enabled mobile phones.

Giesecke & Devrient has won the contract following an international tender. G&D’s SIM card operating system, dubbed SkySIM CX, is a platform that can be used for several contactless applications. Deutsche Telekom is planning to offer its NFC services based on this SIM card offering in various countries in the future.

By using card technologies based on Global Platform and ETSI standards, G&D is expected to ensure that services can be integrated both into mobile network operators’ system infrastructure and into the networks of participating payment systems. The SIM card’s security functions are set to make use of cryptographic methods.
