Wednesday 29 July 2009 08:29 CET | News

Citibank has launched a mobile banking service for smartphones, including BlackBerrys, Palm devices and iPhones.

Dubbed Citi Mobile, the service is aimed at US customers, allowing them to manage Citi account balances and account activity, pay bills and set up recurring payments, make transfers between Citi accounts and locate Citi branches and ATMs. According to research, consumers have started to use smartphones for more than just business purposes. Thus, Nielsens Q1 2009 Mobile Insights survey indicates that 62 percent of smartphone acquirers use their devices for personal reasons, as compared to 10 percent who use them for business-related purposes.

Global financial services company Citibank has recently partnered US mobile financial services applications provider Mobile Money Ventures to provide a joint browser-based mobile banking service in the Philippines.
