AmEx, Foursquare Labs partner for couponless Specials for cardholders in the UK

US financial services company American Express and start-up location-based mobile platform company Foursquare Labs have extended their partnership to allow American Express Card members in the UK who link their foursquare profiles to their cards to load and redeem merchant Specials without the need for coupons, special codes, or showing their mobile devices to cashiers, online media outlet wsj.com reports.

According to the source, the Couponless Specials functionality powered by the American Express Smart Offer APIs enables UK card members to benefit from the merchant Specials offered via Foursquare. Card members have to link their cards to their Foursquare profiles in order to discover American Express Specials at Foursquare venues. When they see a Special on Foursquare they have to check in to the merchant and load the Special to their cards.

The launch has started with outlets including: Bella Italia, Café Rouge, Eat, House of Fraser, Nando’s, PizzaExpress, Primark, Strada and Tesco.

In recent news, American Express has entered an agreement with Isis, a US mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, to make the US Consumer, OPEN Small Business and Serve cards available in the latter’s mobile wallet.
