Spar to launch ecommerce and delivery services

Monday 21 February 2022 12:36 CET | News

South Africa-based retailer Spar has announced plans to roll out an online shopping platform and delivery service in March 2022.

The company saw growth during SA’s recent lockdowns. Spar’s online shopping and delivery service will reportedly launch in selected stores in Johannesburg, Gauteng by the end of March 2022. Representatives said that they recognised the need for an online shopping offering tailored to their business model.

The service, called Spar2U, will offer both groceries and alcohol for delivery. It’s already piloting the service with some stores. There are no further details regarding the group’s ‘unique business model’ and how it’ll impact the delivery service.

Spar is a retail chain that offers fresh produce, meat, baked goods and its own branded products. Its 6 distribution centres service almost 2,000 stores in South Africa under the SUPERSPAR, SPAR, KWIKSPAR, SPAR EXPRESS, TOPS at SPAR, and SAVEMOR brands. The company’s goal is to provide customers with quality products, complemented by personalised service in a community environment.
