India-based research company RedSeer has revealed that with the increase in smartphone usage, the total online consumption by gated communities will reach USD 500 billion in India.

In the next five years, India is expected to see 24 million gated community households in major cities (from 16 million in 2021), along with witnessing the growth in spend per household from the current USD 13,000-USD 14,000 to USD 19,000-USD20,000, bring the overall spend to USD 460-480 billion (2.3-2.5x of the current spend), RedSeer’s report reveals.

In that period, India will be second to the US that will have 125 million gated community households with USD 25,000 as spend per household on average. According to data provided research company RedSeer, 90-95% of the 16 million gated community households in India's major cities are now shopping online (in contrast to 40-45%of non-gated households who shop online).
