In Jordan, e-commerce spending has reached USD 370 million in 2011, up by 92 percent year-over-year, a recent report has unveiled.

According to research released by the Arab Advisers Group, in 2011, 24.4 percent of internet users in Jordan have used e-commerce websites to buy products and services or pay their bills online, as compared to 15.4 percent in 2010.

The same source has shown that during the period under review, the number of e-commerce users has been estimated at around 514,000, which amounts to 8.2 percent of the total Jordanian population.

According to the Jawad J. Abbassi, Arab Advisers founder and general manager, cited by online media outlet loansafe.org, the growth in online shopping and bill payments in 2011 has been a result of an increase in the number of Jordanian consumers holding credit cards which can be used online.

The report has also indicated that 12.6 percent of households with fixed broadband connections have shared their connections with neighbours, which can also constitute a reason for the rise in e-commerce volume.
