Wednesday 19 May 2021 13:09 CET | News

The German Federal Cartel Office has launched a focus department for ecommerce to take more targeted action against misconduct by digital companies and marketplaces.

The division will primarily deal with cases relating to the new Section 19a Competition Act (GWB) and antitrust law focused on ecommerce. Specifically, the new department is concerned with investigating abusive behaviour in online trading that could have a negative impact on competition in the market. According to the office, they are currently investigating, among other things, a possible illegal exclusion of third-party dealers, in the context of brand gating, at Amazon.
