China: Taobao, Alipay and Kingsoft forge online shopping security alliance

Kingsoft Corporation, a Chinese applications software developer, distributor and service provider, has joined forces with Taobao, Alipay and Maxthon Browser, an internet browser platform in China, to develop an online shopping platform in the country, chinatechnews.com reports.

The collaboration will focus on implementing each partys security technologies to take measures on anti-phishing websites, viruses and online shopping safety and thus prevent online phishing and effectively protect users virtual assets.

According to statistics released by China Internet Network Information Center, by 22 November, 2009, the number of phising websites reached nearly 8,342, while the websites of Tencent, Taobao and ICBC were the top three targets for online phishing.

During the January-September period, Chinese internet users spent USD 25 billion (CNY 168.9 billion) online, up 90 percent from the corresponding period of 2008. According to a representative of the commerce ministry cited by Yahoo! Tech, the figure is expected to climb to USD 38.02 billion (CNY 260 billion) by the end of the year.
