According to the report, called “Western Europe B2C E-Commerce Report 2011”, released by the German market research company yStats.com, B2C e-commerce revenue grew between 2009 and 2010 by 10 percent in the UK. In 2010, more than 70 percent of all households have had internet access, while in January 2011 almost 90 percent have accessed shopping websites.
According to the report, e-commerce revenue in France grew from 2009 to 2010 by more than 20 percent while the number of online shoppers increased by 12 percent. However, in 2010, less than 25 percent of all the Spanish customers have ordered online, which is less than the EU average. In Italy, less than 20 percent of the population purchased products online which is also lower than the EU average.
The report has also indicated that household items and clothing have been the most popular categories for online purchases in Belgium. Still, less than 5 percent of all Belgians used their mobile phones to access the internet, which is below the EU average. In the Netherlands, in 2010 the number of online shoppers has increased by 7 percent as compared to 2009, totaling more than 9 million.
