New e-invoicing for VAT rules adopted in Germany

Monday 10 October 2011 15:30 CET | News

The German parliament’s lower house (Bundestag) and upper house (Bundesrat) have approved the 2011 Tax Simplification Act, a piece of legislation that includes a modification of the requirements for electronic invoicing for value added tax (VAT) purposes.

The 2011 Tax Simplification Act thus aims to cut back on bureaucracy. For example, for business taxpayers, the legislation stipulates that VAT invoices may be either transmitted in paper format or, subject to the recipient’s consent, electronically as e-invoices. Electronic invoices would thus be granted equal status to paper invoices.
