10,461,621 online identity records have been lost in the US in September 2011, a recent report has unveiled.

According to “The IdentityHawk August 2011 Identity Breach Report” conducted by US-based identity theft protection services provider IdentityHawk, the number of compromised online records has increased with 10 million from August 2011, when 678,614 compromised online records have been identified. August has accounted for 44 publicly known breaches as compared to 54 in September.

The huge increase of compromised online records is determined by three large breaches reported during September, each with more than a million records.

IdentityHawk is a protection service that enables consumers to safeguard their identity. Members are warned of potential identity risks so they can take better control to stop fraud before it starts.
