Ping Identity, Symantec join forces for cloud-based authentication service

Tuesday 15 February 2011 11:01 CET | News

US-based internet identity security services provider Ping Identity has joined forces with the US security software designer for computers Symantec for the latter’s VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) authentication service.

The partnership is set to integrate the VIP authentication service from Symantec with the PingFederate service from Ping Identity. The new service allows enterprises to provide their remote workers with authentication, while offering them one online identity with Single Sign-On across both internal applications and virtually cloud application.

The PingFederate Integration kit for VIP links PingFederate running at an identity provider site to the VIP hosted in the cloud. As a result, PingFederate integrates the organization’s directory for the first factor, via a VIP credential such as a hardware OTP token or mobile phone-based OTP application and acts as the second factor. When the user is authenticated, PingFederate generates a SAML or WS-Federation assertion and transmits it directly to the service provider who offers access to the application. The user does not have to sign into the application directly.

Symantec’s VIP authentication service is a cloud-based authentication service that provides enterprises online access and transactions to prevent and reduce fraud risk. PingFederate, powered by Ping Identity offers internet SSO, internet user account management and web services.

Ping Identity offers its service to 600 enterprises, government agencies, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) merchandizers and online service providers worldwide.
