The Department of Defense (DoD) has selected MorphoTrust, part of the French identification, detection and e-document solutions company Morpho, a subsidiary of Safran Group, to maintain its central biometrics platform.

Under the terms of the deal, MorphoTrust will provide ongoing software maintenance and support for all DoD systems based on ABIS. The maintenance contract for ABIS is worth USD 17.8 million, USD3.6 million a year with four one-year options. MorphoTrust owns ABIS and licenses it to customers, including DoD, which uses ABIS as its authoritative technology platform for multi-modal biometrics. DoD purchased an enterprise-wide license for the platform in 2010.

MorphoTrust USA is the US provider of identity solutions to federal, state and local governments. The company’s offerings help to verify the identity of applicants and deliver the credentials that individuals rely on to exercise their civil rights, gain access to benefits and services and ensure transactions while reducing fraud and upgrading national security. The company delivers solutions for secure ID issuance such as US driver licenses and passports as well as for border management, law enforcement, retail, travel and applicant vetting through document authentication, data verification and biometrics (iris, fingerprints and face).
