According to data from non-profit anti-fraud organization CIFAS, during the period under review, 82 percent of identity fraud cases were carried out online, making it difficult to identify fraudsters.
The same source indicates that identity fraud has grown by 1 percent, accounting for over half (52 percent) of all UK recorded fraud, compared with application fraud (18 percent), misuse of facility (15 percent) and facility takeover fraud (14 percent).
CIFAS communications manager Richard Hurley, cited by online media outlet Biz Report, has mentioned that while it is vitally important that all organizations protect the data that they hold, and do all that they can to prevent fraud (from using the latest technologies to better use of data), individuals also have a vital role to play in keeping data safe.
