Verifone SC 5000 Achieves First MasterCard EMV Certification In Latvia

Thursday 20 November 2003 18:49 CET | News

VeriFone International Partner (VIP) POINT Transaction Systems SIA has become the first vendor in Latvia to successfully certify an EMV solution with MasterCard under the new Terminal Integration Process (TIP).

POINT Latvia, part of the POINT Group, achieved MasterCard EMV end-to-end certification for VeriFone?s SC 5000 smart programmable PINpad with the interbank organisation Bankserviss. To ensure global EMV interoperability, MasterCard International?s stringent TIP process validates the chip-enabled terminal in the environment in which it is used. The achievement of this industry first reinforces the regional dominance of POINT Group, which also represents VeriFone in Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Estonia and Lithuania. The SC 5000 provides an easy migration path to upgrade installed terminals or integrated point of sale systems to support global smart card solutions based on EMV specifications. The SC 5000 is protected by a broad range of software-based security features and supports the EMV and Triple DES (3DES) encryption standards being adopted by the payment industry to raise the level of fraud protection for PIN-based debit transactions.
