Initially promoted by 11 authorities in Scotland it is now being expanded to include all 32 Local Authorities. At the current time SCASC is looking at the three early adopters, Aberdeen, Dundee, and Edinburgh of Citizen smart cards. The way forward will take into account the work already undertaken along with the consolidated training program undertaken by the leading 11 Authorities. At a graduation ceremony to be held in Aberdeen, Tom McCade, the Scottish Minister of State for Finance and Public Service Reform will award the first 12 students with Smart Card Technology certificates having qualified in the intensive six month training program organised by the Worthing based company Smart Card Group. According to Dr. David Everett, CEO at Smart Card Group, the Scottish Authorities are working together to learn about smart card technology and to pool their experiences on the best route forward. This approach will undoubtedly put them in a strong position to achieve their business objectives and to act as an example to other Local Authorities in the UK.
