SCM Microsystems will begin distributing Common Interface (CI) modules that provide authorized access to Premiere television programming. The Premiere-labelled modules are available for immediate delivery through the retail channel.

Premiere – the leading pay TV provider in Germany and Austria – already offers SCMs CI technology as a convenient alternative to set-top boxes, which utilize embedded signal decryption systems. Subscribers can purchase the modules and then use them with a variety of digital set-top boxes that include a CI interface. Consumers can also use the CI-enabled set-tops to access programming from additional pay TV operators. Premiere is offering dealers an additional marketing commission for Premiere-certified receivers sold with a CI module. There are numerous brands of set-top receivers available for consumers that are Premiere certified and equipped with a CI slot, including Nokia, Panasonic, Kathrein, Grundig, Tonbury, Technisat and Orbitech. SCMs modules can also be used with selected CI-enabled integrated digital televisions, including those manufactured by Loewe.
