Sberbank of Russia, American Express sign card-issuing deal

Sberbank of Russia has entered an agreement with American Express under the terms of which the former will become the US financial services companys card-issuing partner in Russia.

As part of the agreement, Sberbank will issue the American Express-branded cards and be responsible for the customer service, marketing, credit and risk controls on these products. The Russian bank will begin to issue premium and super-premium cards, in RUB, EUR and USD by early 2011. The cards will feature both Sberbanks logo and American Express Blue Box logo.

Sberbank of Russia has 18 regional head offices, over 20,000 branches and banking outlets, as well as subsidiaries in Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine.
