NXP, Austria Card introduce Lufthansa Miles & More credit card

Wednesday 1 October 2008 15:53 CET | News

European semiconductor company NXP Semiconductors joins forces with Austria Card, a supplier of cards and personalisation services in Austria and Eastern Europe, to launch the Lufthansa Miles & More credit card in Germany

The credit card incorporates a SmartMX security EMV chip from NXP Semiconductors. Produced by Austria Card in Vienna, the card is issued by Deutsche Kreditbank and Lufthansa.
The Lufthansa Miles & More credit card features MasterCard PayPass technology. MasterCard PayPass is an EMV-compatible, contactless payment feature that provides cardholders with a simplified way to pay by tapping a payment card or other payment device, such as a phone or key fob, on a point-of-sale terminal reader rather than swiping or inserting a card.
Via MasterCard PayPass, cardholders can pay no more than EUR 25 by tapping the card over the PayPass reader. The procedure does not imply the use of a PIN or signature. In case they want to pay for purchases of over EUR 25, customers have to sign or enter their PIN, while online purchases are verified via a MasterCard Secure Code.
The credit card complies with security requirements, due to NXPs SmartMX dual-interface EMV chip which has been certified by the German Federal Office of Information Security.
The Frankfurt and Munich Airports have already installed the first MasterCard PayPass terminals at checkout counters. Over 27 million locations throughout the world accept the Lufthansa Miles & More credit cards.
