Wednesday 4 April 2007 21:42 CET | News

NetSpend has enhanced its complimentary Anytime Alerts account information service with the addition of two-way mobile phone text messaging.

NetSpend is now the first prepaid debit card company to make account balances, transaction history and help desk contact information available using the text-messaging Short Message Service (SMS) technology platform. Responses are sent in near real-time. In 2003, NetSpend was the first prepaid debit card company to provide customers with account information using email-based messaging to customer cell phones and email addresses. That year, about 7,000 such notices were transmitted. The latest enhancement provides two-way text message exchanges to mobile phones and NetSpend anticipates dispatching 50 million messages this year. NetSpend’s direct connection to the SMS network allows a level of service reliability not possible with the email-based messaging common in the industry, and represents a major investment in technology and infrastructure for the company.NetSpend delivers more than 3 million text messages per month to cardholder phones via the SMS network and has processed hundreds of thousands of mobile-originated text messages sent by customers. Cardholders can enroll in the complimentary Anytime Alerts program at www.netspend.com , or by calling 1-86-NETSPEND (1-866-387-7363). To find the nearest NetSpend retail location, customers can text their zip code to 22622. NetSpend All-Access Prepaid Cards are issued by Inter National Bank and MetaBank, members FDIC.
