iTunes Card with InComm POS activation technology made available at Yamada Denki stores in Japan

Wednesday 18 March 2009 11:44 CET | News

US stored-value gift and prepaid products company InComm teams up with Japanese appliance and home electronics store Yamada Denki. Under the terms of the deal, the latter is set to market the iTunes Card with integrated InComm Fastcard point-of-sale activation (POS) technology in all its retail locations.

iTunes Cards are used to purchase and download music and other digital content, such as music videos, audiobooks and games from Apple’s iTunes Store. The iTunes Card’s value is activated via the point-of-sale system. By combining the value-bearing prepaid iTunes Card with InComm’s Fastcard POS activation technology, Yamada Denki can cut back on fraud and also display the cards instead of keeping them locked in a safe, as procedure dictates for value bearing cards.

The InComm technology was piloted in December 2008 in 12 of its megastores in Japan. iTunes Cards are available in USD 15 (JPY 1,500), USD30 (JPY 3,000) and USD 50 (JPY 5,000) denominations.
