MasterCard has acquired a 12.5 percent stake in ElectraCard Services (ECS), a provider of software services for credit and payments management. Through the investment, MasterCard aims to expand its portfolio of processing products and services in India as well as across Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

Founded in 2006, ECS operates as a subisidiary of Opus Software Solutions. The company provides processing services and software for credit, debit and prepaid cards as well as EFT (electronic funds transfer) switching solutions to banks across 25 countries.

Most recently, MasterCard has entered an ASP (application service provider) partnership with Norkom Technologies to enhance the capabilities MasterCard’s issuing customers currently have in predicting, detecting, and preventing payment card fraud.
