Giesecke & Devrient Products to Meet New Government Identity Credential Standard

Thursday 10 March 2005 10:26 CET | News

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), will provide a full suite of smart card products that meet the new FIPS 201 standard issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

FIPS 201 was issued in response to the Presidents Homeland Security Directive mandating a standard identity credential for all government employees (HSPD-12). G&D provided key contributions for development of the standard and is pleased to be among the first to respond to this critical program by providing compliant products to meet the tight schedule required by the Presidential Directive. The FIPS 201 standard delineates the requirements for personal identity verification (PIV) for Federal employees and contractors. The standard covers the minimum requirements for a Federal PIV system, including personal identity proofing, registration, and issuance. It also provides detailed specifications that will support technical interoperability of PIV among Federal agencies.
