Yugo has partnered with Urbo and Yapily to launch a prototype that uses the latter’s Open Banking infrastructure to build trust in agentic commerce.
The prototype, developed by Yugo together with travel platform Urbo, allows an AI agent to search for and assemble a purchase, such as flights, tickets or a full itinerary, while leaving the consumer in control of what is bought and how it is paid for. Yapily steps in place with their Pay by Bank infrastructure, which supplies the Open Banking connectivity behind their customer's agentic initiative.
Consumer trust is currently low
According to Checkout.com's Agentic Commerce 2026 report, AI agents currently contribute to only 3% of online transactions, even though 85% of merchants expect agentic commerce to account for at least 10% of their online sales within two years.
Separate research from Worldpay found that only around 6% of consumers are comfortable allowing an agent to complete an entire purchase independently. Comfort levels are falling further as transaction value is higher. In addition, almost a quarter of consumers state they would not trust an agent with a purchase at all.
How the prototype works
The prototype built by Yugo was designed with the following steps: the consumer makes a request in natural language, and the agent searches and compiles relevant options. The requester then reviews and confirms the selection before anything is purchased. Prior to any personal data being shared with a merchant, the consumer is shown what will be disclosed and asked to consent, while the payment will be completed through a Pay by Bank link, which the consumer authorises directly within their own banking app under the customer authentication requirements of the EU's PSD2. Once the payment is made, the booking is confirmed and followed by an instant confirmation.
Yugo and Urbo’s initiative aims to relieve people’s lack of trust in agentic by allowing the AI agents to run only relying on the requester’s final decision, thus avoiding any error or risks sneaking up in the process.
Positioning Pay by Bank for agent-led payments
Roland Selmer, Chief Product Officer, Yapily, states that by Pay by Bank’s option, which allows the customer to approve each transaction directly in their banking app, the risk of agentic to hold on to card details and re-use them for another payment is eliminated. This way, AI agents have no authority to perform payments. Also, Selmer adds that every transaction is recorded once the requester’s approval is given.
Yugo claims that compared to a traditional agent-initiated checkout that takes around six steps, the Pay by Bank checkout can be done via two steps: choosing the bank and confirming the biometrics within the banking app.
Furthermore, the company also mentioned that the prototype remains a working version ahead of a planned live product to be launched.
