As of 1 April 2025, all purchases made onboard by Wizz Air’s customers are set to be processed exclusively through card payments, including contactless options such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Android Pay, and Google Pay. Additionally, to further broaden its payment methods, the airline now accepts Revolut cards, besides Visa and Mastercard, both credit and debit. Through this, Wizz Air intends to offer passengers more convenience and an optimised travel experience.
This upgrade comes just a week after Wizz Air joined forces with Revolut to allow customers to pay with a single click when buying airline tickets online. This enabled Revolut users to get up to EUR 25 back after registering and spending their first EUR 5. At the same time, Wizz Air’s customers were set to be able to check out in one click when they used Revolut Pay in the WIZZ app. The partnership focused on making the process of buying tickets more secure while also serving the needs, demands, and preferences of users.
By switching to cashless payments, Wizz Air now allows passengers to make purchases without the need to carry cash, optimising and accelerating the onboard service process. With this system, the airline intends to ensure an optimal shopping experience, enabling travellers to enjoy their journey without the need to stay in currency exchange queues. Also, implementing cashless transactions improves hygiene, as crew members are no longer required to handle cash, in turn contributing to a cleaner and safer travel environment.
Furthermore, Wizz Air’s passengers can purchase a prepaid voucher through the Wizz Air mobile app for an augmented onboard experience, which intends to deliver safety in transactions and mitigate unexpected transactional difficulties. The transition is set to bring additional guidelines, including:
The maximum combined amount supported for onboard purchases for every customer will be EUR 150;
For transactions of EUR 50 or over, customers will need to present a boarding pass.
