The partnership is part of Škoda's efforts to expand its digital offerings for drivers. The new service aims to facilitate a seamless and efficient payment experience for refuelling directly through the car's infotainment system. Currently available in six European countries, the Pay to Fuel service is accessible through the in-car navigation system, listing supported fuel stations. Upon selecting a station, the vehicle automatically identifies it upon arrival.
To utilise the service, drivers open an app on the car's display, confirm the chosen petrol station, and input the pump number. Post refuelling, the infotainment screen displays the fuel amount, and payment is processed via debit or credit card, accepting all common cards. Transaction notifications are received through the MyŠkoda app and the vehicle screen.
The Pay to Fuel service is compatible with all Škoda ICE vehicles featuring Amundsen or Columbus infotainment systems. Activation requires an updated infotainment system, a touchscreen of 9.2 inches or larger, and an active Škoda Connect account with Remote Access enabled. Users can set up their payment cards through the MyŠkoda smartphone app.
The service is a collaboration involving Parkopedia, Mastercard, and the German fintech company ryd. Currently available in Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Pay to Fuel is set to expand to Portugal, Spain, and the Czech market in the near future. Regarding this product launch, representatives from Parkopedia emphasised the seamless and secure payment process offered by Pay to Fuel, streamlining fuel payments for Škoda drivers without the need for third-party apps or repeated payment details entry.
Prior to its collaboration with Škoda, Parkopedia also worked with Hyundai in September 2023 to launch a service that allows customers to find and pay for things using the vehicle’s infotainment system and paying for them with stored credit card information.
Hyundai Pay launched with the 2024 Hyundai Kona, but an additional nine Hyundai models will get Hyundai Pay via model year changes or over-the-air updates and include Parkopedia parking payment services. In the future, the Hyundai Pay platform will also have additional features and electric vehicle related use cases.
Moreover, through the integration of Parkopedia’s Payment Platform and extensive data, Hyundai also aimed to support a convenient and seamless parking experience for drivers, removing the stress of finding and paying for off-street garage car accommodation.
