DPO Group and Amadeus to offer mobile payments for airline customers

Tuesday 14 December 2021 13:22 CET | News

Spain-based travel technology company Amadeus has partnered with DPO Group to enable digital payments for regional and international airline customers across Africa.

Amadeus’s airline customers will be able to accept local payments, including via mobile money and card payments, allowing international airlines to operate locally and African airlines to expand globally. DPO is connected to multiple regional and international airlines via Amadeus’s airline passenger system.

According to the GSMA State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2021, there were 548 million registered mobile money accounts in the region at the end of 2020, almost 46% of the global total. Over USD 2 billion was processed daily by the global mobile money industry in 2020.

DGP Group officials said that African mobile money is a game changer for airlines flying to, from, and within Africa, allowing them to reach local customers that they were previously unable to. They added that airlines have been a key focus area for DPO since it first launched in 2006 with a local airline its first African merchant.
