Experian has launched a ChatGPT app upgrade letting UK users view their personalised credit score, history, and score breakdown securely.
The update allows users who connect their Experian account to see their 1250 Experian Credit Score, review their score history, and access a breakdown of the factors that determine their score, without leaving the chat interface.
According to research cited by the company, 62% of regular ChatGPT users already turn to AI tools for support with financial goals. However, when consumers ask AI platforms about credit scores, the answers have typically been generic and based on publicly available sources that may not reflect an individual's actual position. The upgraded app is designed to address this by linking directly to a user's authenticated Experian data rather than relying on general information.
Experian states that it powers the majority of lending decisions in the UK, including eight in ten credit card applications, which the company positions as a reason for the relevance of its credit score data to consumers assessing their financial standing.
Product capabilities and security design
Once a user connects their Experian account within ChatGPT, the app displays the personalised credit score inside a secure widget, along with an explanation of what makes up the score, historical tracking of score changes and score band, and a comparison table of current account offers. Experian said the credit score data is displayed within its own logged-in environment and is not exposed to, or used by, the underlying AI model when generating responses. Users seeking more detailed analysis are directed back to the Experian app and website for a full credit report.
Market context and target demographic
According to the official press release, 91% of regular ChatGPT users would find an Experian app helpful, and 86% said they would trust it, with data privacy cited as the primary factor influencing that trust. Separately, 38% of users aged 18 to 34 identified learning about personal finance as a financial goal, while this age group remains among the least likely to have checked their credit score. Experian frames the ChatGPT integration as a way to reach this demographic through a platform many already use, while creating a pathway back to its own app for further financial guidance.
Edu Castro, Managing Director of Experian Consumer Services, UK&I, said the update gives people secure access to their own score with an explanation of the underlying factors, within a platform already in wide daily use, and noted that accuracy becomes more important as consumers seek financial advice across a growing number of channels.
