Thunes has expanded its stablecoin liquidity management capabilities by launching prefunding support for EURC, Circle's euro-backed, Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA)-compliant stablecoin. The addition allows eligible Members of Thunes' Direct Global Network to use EURC as a liquidity currency to prefund transactions and manage treasury operations.
The launch builds on a collaboration between Thunes and Circle that began in October 2024, when the two companies introduced USDC-powered liquidity into Thunes' Direct Global Network. With EURC now added, Network Members gain an additional stablecoin option for funding euro-denominated flows alongside the existing USD-based capability.
Addressing treasury constraints outside banking hours
For companies handling cross-border payment flows, prefunding with EURC is intended to support treasury operations outside conventional banking hours, including weekends and holidays. Thunes said the capability is designed to let Network Members fund high-value euro transactions instantly and adjust liquidity in response to real-time demand, rather than being limited to the settlement windows of traditional banking rails.
EURC prefunding is supported across several blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Stellar, in line with Thunes' network-agnostic architecture. This allows Members to select the blockchain infrastructure best suited to their existing operations rather than being tied to a single chain.
Thunes' network connects digital assets with more than 90 fiat currencies, a bridge it says allows fintechs, neobanks, payment service providers and gig-economy platforms to move funds between traditional and digital asset ecosystems with instant settlement. For Web3-native companies specifically, the addition of EURC means accounts can be funded directly from digital treasuries using a MiCA-compliant euro asset, without first converting to fiat.
Regulatory alignment under MiCA
The emphasis on MiCA compliance reflects the broader regulatory environment for stablecoins operating in the EU, where the framework sets requirements for issuers of asset-referenced and e-money tokens. By building its euro liquidity option around a MiCA-compliant asset, Thunes is positioning the product to align with rules that have become a reference point for stablecoin activity involving European currencies.
Chloé Mayenobe, Deputy CEO of Thunes, said the EURC integration reflects the company's approach to bridging fiat and digital asset infrastructure, noting that offering a MiCA-compliant euro asset across multiple blockchains is intended to give partners flexibility to move value continuously and manage treasury flows during periods of fluctuating demand.
Kash Razzaghi, Chief Commercial Officer at Circle, said the addition of EURC to Thunes' network is intended to translate stablecoin utility into practical business use, giving companies access to regulated euro liquidity with the speed and continuity required for cross-border payment operations.
The launch adds to a small but growing set of infrastructure providers linking regulated euro-denominated stablecoins to payment networks operating across multiple currencies and blockchain environments, as demand for continuous, non-bank-hour liquidity movement continues among payment service providers and digital asset platforms.
