The system is the first in the UK to carry payment transactions over General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), delivered via one of the UKs leading mobile communications networks. The system, named Ocius, is based on VeriFones Omni 3600 portable wireless terminal, the first to support the superior packet-based GSM/GPRS and CDMA 1X services. With the Omni 3600, transaction times can be cut to seconds and downloads are streamlined by the always on connectivity supported by IP-based networks. The Omni 3600 is EMV and PED certified, supports IP and WAP standards, end-to-end Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security, and 3DES encryption, ensuring that transactions are secure and retailers need not worry about keeping up with evolving technologies and mandates. Ocius is the first of a new generation of mobile payment technology solutions which allow retailers to accept credit and debit card transactions, obtaining bank authorisation in a matter of seconds, from any location. As the system utilises GPRS there are no call charges, making the system highly cost- effective. Supported by all UK banks, Ocius can accept both traditional signature verification and Chip and PIN transactions, and operates on a highly secure network to provide total information confidentiality and peace of mind. The Omni 3600 portable wireless terminal comes complete with a triple track magnetic stripe card reader, EMV smart card reader, internal PINpad, and integrated printer, making it capable of accommodating a full range of payment and value-added applications.
