UPMC Health Plan launches dual-purpose membership ID and debit card

The card targets UPMC Health Plan members who own a Flexible Spending Account FSA) and allows them to access their funds, check their FSA account balance online; MyFlex Advantage also functions as an ID card and provides member-specific data and insurance information.

Moreover, UPMC Health Plan members can use their cards to make POS payments for eligible products and services without the need to subsequently submit claim forms and wait for reimbursements, due to the fact that payments are deducted directly from members’ FSA account. Among the eligible expenses which can be paid using the MyFlex Advantage card are dental and vision expenses, braces, counseling services, psychiatric care, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications.

The cards are available for UPMC employees starting January 2009 and are to be made available to UPMC Health Plan members in July 2009.
