Shopify Amazon Pay partnership to end

Following this announcement, Shopify users in the region of Europe will not have the possibility to leverage Amazon Pay as a payment option, as it will no longer be available from the 6th of August 2024.

At the same time, Amazon also responded by announcing Amazon Pay merchants and traders that due to the expected drop in transactions and payments, they may impose a higher reserve amount.

Shopify has announced to its users and customers in the region of Europe that Amazon Pay will no longer be available as a payment option starting in August this year.

More information on the announcement

Throughout this process, Amazon Pay will also be deactivated from businesses’ shops and past order information for Amazon Pay will be available on Amazon Seller Central. For any questions that are related to the discontinuation of support or the process of managing the Amazon Pay transactions after August 6, companies and merchants will need to contact Amazon Support. In addition, traders will have the capability to offer their customers and clients other payment methods that are available in their region.

At the same time, Amazon’s response also told businesses that they might end up with a bigger reserve on their account, just as the time they lose their overall Shopify revenue, while also having to consider alternative payment methods. Traders may see an additional reserve amount to their account based on their refund and dispute rate over the past 30 days. In addition, this reserve ensures their account is sufficiently funded to deliver a secure and efficient post-order experience for clients, for any claims and refunds, and is in accordance with the company’s User Agreement. For any other inquiries, including multiple requests for additional assistance, merchants will need to contact Amazon Pay Merchants Support.
