Paytm users can now tap phones for payments at POS

The developers announced that the service will be possible even when the phone is locked or there is no Internet connection or data plan. The “Tap to Pay” feature is available for both Android and iOS users paying through Paytm all-in-one POS devices and POS machines from other banks.

The new feature not only aims to increase conversion rate but also represents a step further in India’s digitisation as it allow users to make payments even without a stable Internet connection.

In addition to the “Tap to Pay” novelty, the company is also looking into converting the 16-digit primary account number (PAN) of a selected card into a secured transaction code or a digital identifier. This aims to keep the user’s privacy and prevent personal data from being shared with any third party payment processor.
