GZS Gesellschaft für Zahlungssysteme mbH and its subsidiary easycash provided the technical infrastructure for this transaction, corroborating its leading role in implementing EMV-based applications. easycash is Germanys first network operator to offer EMV-enabled terminals. On the acquiring-processing side, the GZS group was also Germanys first processor to be able to fully process credit-card transactions in its merchant systems using EMV-chip technology, thereby rounding off its innovative prowess in all areas. This is a major step towards comprehensive security as the use of EMV-based technology effectively rules out all possibility of fraud. The new chip technology was built into the MultiCardManager (MCM) flexible plus terminals supplied by THALES. After the successful conclusion of a series of rigorous software tests performed by GZS and THALES, the terminals were released the live handling of chip-based credit-card payments. Merchant-test rollout using EMV-enabled terminals The next phase of a meticulously planned, ongoing process for the migration of system infrastructure and operative processes can now be initiated. The next series of tests aims to ensure the stability and performance of all participating components under stress conditions. In conjunction with acquirer ConCardis, the entire Holiday Inn chain is to be equipped with the new terminals over the coming weeks and months and serve as a pilot for GZSs processing. Holiday Inn will thus become the first merchant group in Germany to operate the innovative chip technology. The large number of international guests with EMV chip credit cards and its prominence makes Holiday Inn the optimal choice for pilot operations.
